This con was a WHOLE lot of firsts for me. I started my con by riding out Friday morning with Aizen while wearing Sango. Getting to the con and getting in reg line before they opened, the wait took about an hour before the line moved and probably another hour until I was out on the con floor with my badge. I looked around, taking in the sights of the new venue when I was contacted with my room number for the hotel. Moving my luggage up to the room and enjoying having one for a bit, I then moved back to the con floor, now that everything was set up. Stopping in AA for a bit, I met a few people there that would eventually become my friends in the future. I stopped at a table with an Utena cosplayer, named Sylus, and began to chat with her. Upon talking, we realize we were cosplaying together the next day as Kurama and Hiei. We exchanged numbers and made a plan to hang out later. Several pictures and walking time later, I went to my room, changed into Kaoru and made my way to Cosplay Chess, hoping maybe I'd get picked to be on the board. Sadly, distractions got the better of me and I ended up being too late to the game to be chosen, but I still had fun watching. I grabbed some lunch/dinner with friends after the game, then came back to con to hang out with Sylus for the evening. We went to a yuri panel, then just got to know each other better before calling it a night and going to bed.
Started Saturday not wanting to get up because I was so tired. Then I remembered what all I had planned and got into Kurama, who was my friend dream cosplay. I met up with Sylus, who told me her friends that were also cosplaying from YYH would join us later. So after meeting Lanipator, getting asked for kissy pics with Sylus and getting the whole group together, it was a pretty awesome day. Got an autograph and hit the rave shortly after with Nexus. There was no drama, but I cried due to various reasons, the main one being that I felt like I'd found a piece of me that had been missing (I'd been terrified at first about potentially liking women). Sunday was very slow. I motivated into Sango, but threw on some cat ears and a collar and later my new friend Azume added caution tape to my hair. It looked like Sango had gotten drunk and stumbled into a fetish shop XP The snacks I brought for my room didn't get eaten up, so I gave out free food to many of the con goers. Met up with Sylus again and hung out until she had to go so she could get back home at a decent hour.

This would be my first con in which I ACTUALLY attended all three days. It would also be the con where I began making more friends and doing more things. I began the con as Kaoru. The line for badges was so long that the top of my head got sunburned when the line was outside XP Then I sat around and waited for my partner at the time and the friends coming with him. I got there in the middle of the afternoon. They got there in the early evening, so most of the day was wasted. I went around and got some pictures while I waited. Sadly, by the time they got their badges, none of them wanted to cosplay, which meant no Kenshin to my Kaoru.
Due to not having a hotel room, we had to commute back and forth, Battousai and I staying with She, while Wufei and Shaman when back to their homes. Then I started Saturday in Sango. Even though I wanted to cosplay with my partner, I was dead set on what I wanted to wear for the busiest day of the con. Went around and did a lot of things I'd never done before, like panels and video rooms. It was so exciting being there for everything that I knew right then and there that I wanted to continue attending the whole weekend for every con I could manage. That day was when I met some of the people that are my friends now, whether we actually stopped and chatted or if we merely met in passing. but it was also my first tie having con drama, as my partner was being an insufferable prick for a vast majority of the day. We ended up all leaving early because he was having a tantrum like a toddler. Sunday was pretty quiet and mediocre. We perused the DR, took pictures and people watched for the most part. The con ended with us all watching Tsubasa in one of the video rooms before Shaman decided it was time for her to take us all home. My first time having con depression and con plague, it sucked. But I knew I wanted to do it all over again next year. It was my first year of being allowed to take the first day of con off so I could go all weekend! I went over to a friend's house, got into InuYasha with some help and we (with her boyfriend at the time) went to the con hotel. Upon arriving, we witnessed what looked like a protest or riot on the grounds of the building. A bunch of cosplayers were on the 'front lawn', shouting at the hotel. Apparently, they were ALL people that were turned away at the door, con staff telling them all the badges were sold out and that they had a cap of 3k that had already been met.
After getting info, as well as hearing a rumor about unclaimed badges being given away the next morning, we just milled around the crowd, talking to random people. A young girl and her friends talked to us for a while before we all decided to go to the Mall of America right across the street. We stayed there for a few hours, buying some things here and there, before we decided to leave and head back to Chaska. Ate dinner and called it a night. I was most certainly not functioning properly when I was woken up at 7 that next morning. Sleepily got into Kaoru and got some pictures in the backyard before leaving. Our group decided to leave early due to the rumors we heard. We thought if we left sooner, rather than later, we'd have a better chance of getting a badge. The weather wasn't very helpful either, as it was dense fog that made driving difficult. We get there to find out, of course, that the rumors were untrue. so we made a field day of MoA again, buying a lot more since we had no reason to preserve our money at this point. I was a very happy lady with the loot I bought <3 The following day was a 'sit on your ass and watch anime all day' kind of Sunday, before I had to be taken home. |
