So, I first found out about Detour through my high school art teacher. She got a flier in the mail and gave it to myself and my partner at the time. He and his mother began helping me craft my first cosplay, InuYasha. As most first cosplays go, it was terrible, but it was comfortable and that's all I cared about at the time. I had a lot of really bad moments making it and wearing it, but now I tuck them away in my back pocket for funny stories to share with veteran and new cosplayers alike.
It was quite the hassle to even get to the con (original ride decided she didn't want to come get me), then it was hard to get in (con lost my pre-reg and I had no ID as a young teenager). I had to peruse the con for a while before I even found my partner and his friend. I got no pictures from the con (my camera broke) and no one took pictures of me (I wasn't good enough). We were probably only there for a grand total of no more than 5 hours, but it was likely less than that. There wasn't much to do, since it was the last day, we didn't know where anything was past the bar and the hotel was small as hell. I think the plus side, other than getting immersed in the community, was nearly forgetting a bag of merch in the lobby that had apparently sat there for 15 minutes before I remembered and, when my partner got out of the car to look, someone came out of the hotel to chase us down and get me my things <3 As a con experience, first time or not, it was rather dull. But I told myself if I kept going at cosplay and going to cons, maybe I could make up for the bad first time. Good to know I was right XD
